Tall Rabbit's 2015

Another year has gone past and like every year, it seems to have been really quick! There have been new and exciting adventures in 2015 for Tall Rabbit, the biggest which was travelling to Sydney to exhibit at Oz Comic-Con! I also joined Instagram (follow me @tallrabbitgram) and loved it!  I did more pop-up shops with Montage Collective and markets with Made on the Left and designed new products. Not as many as I'd hoped but that just means I have even more planned for 2016! Thank you for supporting me and I hope to meet lots more of you in 2016! Long live Tall Rabbit! :)

Market season is over!

Unusually for me, I've finished all my Christmas markets for the year before December! I had three hot weekends of outdoor markets and I'm glad to be able to stay inside for the rest of the hot weather! Here are some photos from the Made on the Left Christmas markets which was in Forrest Place, Perth.

Made on the Left winter market

For the past few months, I've been madly working away to help organise and prepare for the Made on the Left market, which was on Sunday. For the first time it was held at the Perth Concert Hall and it turned out to be a pretty good venue, with lots of natural light. It was filled with over 70 local designers, lots of customers and four local music acts. Unfortunately, I was running around doing organisational things so much that I didn't get to spend much time at my stall or to get any photos! Luckily, I had a very capable helper to serve my customers and Louise Simonette was there to take photos. Thanks guys!

Made on the Left Christmas market

Last weekend was probably my biggest achievement of the year so far - the Made on the Left Christmas markets! It was over two days in Forrest Place, Perth. I am on the volunteer committee and help organise it and boy is it a lot of work! From our first meeting with the City of Perth in August, we started planning and organising and working working working! There's so much that goes on behind the scenes that I never knew about before I joined Made on the Left. Sometimes it was overwhelming and stressful but it all worked out in the end. Phew! I'm so proud to be part of the Perth creative community, with so much talent on offer! Thank you to everyone who supports it by coming to the Made on the Left markets and everyone who helped out to make sure it all went well. We did it!

Numbat on the numbat market!

I'm having a stall at the Made on the Left markets on Sunday! It's at the State Theatre Centre of WA in Northbridge from 10 – 4. There will be 70 very talented stallholders with everything made in WA. Yay!

Competition: Name the Numbats!
Can you think of the perfect name for this trio of crafty numbats? You could win a print of the artwork to pick up from the market! Either comment on this post, on Facebook or email your suggestion to nicole [at] madeontheleft.com and give these little creatures the names they've been waiting for!

The numbats are out of the bag!

I can finally reveal the rest of my numbat illustration!

I was so excited to be asked to do the poster for the July Made on the Left market. It is my favourite market to do and I like it so much, I am even a volunteer committee member and part of the team that organises it. I had my first stall at a Made on the Left market in 2008 and haven't missed one since so I am very happy to be able to do this illustration. I chose numbats as the stars of this poster as they are a WA emblem (and I like drawing cute little animals). I like to image that somewhere out there a group of crafty numbats is getting together and making jewellery, knitting and painting, getting ready for their very own market (possibly called Made in the Bush). They'd have bunting made out of gum leaves, their goods spread out on tree trunks and pay for things with termites...

Made on the Left winter market

Made on the Left poster by Natasha Muhl

I'm looking forward to the July Made on the Left market at the State Theatre Centre of WA on Sunday 28th July from 11am - 5pm. It's going to be huge! There will be stalls on four levels of the Theatre Centre so make sure you look at all of them! You'll find me in the entrance foyer so come and say hello!

Busy Bunny!

The past few months have been extremely busy! Starting with preparations for Perth Upmarket, followed by preparations for the Made on the Left market, as well as the Montage pop-up shop! It's all happening at once!

One of my new items for the Perth Upmarket was this screenprinted squirrel cushion. It has a cute acorn patterned fabric on the back. I think he looks quite comfy on this retro armchair!

Now on to Made on the Left - this was the first MOTL market where I have been a part of the committee organising it. I got to find out how much hard work and planning actually goes into a market (a lot!) and all by volunteers! I really enjoyed being part of the team and helping to bring this great event together :)

The venue for this market was the one40william building in the Perth CBD - it had an industrial look with unfinished surfaces, lots of concrete and tubing but unfortunately included zero lighting! Fortunately it had big windows to let natural light in and some hired spotlights attempted to light the rest of the area (when they decided to work!). I really liked the feel of it - I just wished I had had time to look at all the other stalls - there were so many good ones! It was great that so many people came along too. Here's my table all set up with some new bunting for decoration.

As part of the build up for the market, I was interviewed for an article in the Post newspapers! See, I'm famous! :)
If only they'd asked me to supply the photos...

I haven't even got onto telling the adventures behind setting up a pop-up shop yet! I think I'll have to save that for another post. First I'll have a little lie down :)
