It's a new year!

Hello!
It's 2016!
January has been a non Tall Rabbit month as I have done a bit of travelling to Melbourne and Tasmania and loved it! I got a lot of inspiration which will no doubt come out in my work sometime during the year. I'm looking forward to new creations and new directions and lots of cute! Happy New Year!

Tall Rabbit's 2015

Another year has gone past and like every year, it seems to have been really quick! There have been new and exciting adventures in 2015 for Tall Rabbit, the biggest which was travelling to Sydney to exhibit at Oz Comic-Con! I also joined Instagram (follow me @tallrabbitgram) and loved it!  I did more pop-up shops with Montage Collective and markets with Made on the Left and designed new products. Not as many as I'd hoped but that just means I have even more planned for 2016! Thank you for supporting me and I hope to meet lots more of you in 2016! Long live Tall Rabbit! :)

Montage at Milkd

I'm taking part in another Montage Collective pop-up shop - this time at Milkd Café, 48 Eighth Ave, Maylands. It's a new experience for us as we haven't set up with another business before but it does mean we can get yummy food and drinks while we work!

We'll be open 9:30 - 4:30 every day up to Christmas so make sure you pop in for some locally made Christmas gifts! Including these for the cupcake lover...

Pencil rainbow

I've been planning this for a while but I finally got my rainbow of pencils finished! Yay!
I've made them into mini brooches for all those cute stationery appreciators!

Market season is over!

Unusually for me, I've finished all my Christmas markets for the year before December! I had three hot weekends of outdoor markets and I'm glad to be able to stay inside for the rest of the hot weather! Here are some photos from the Made on the Left Christmas markets which was in Forrest Place, Perth.

Letterpress magic

I recently did a letterpress workshop at The Little Press. I've loved letterpress for ages and always wanted to try it out and when I saw this workshop which allowed you to print your own design, I knew it was for me!
I decided I wanted to to a poodle design but then it turned into a unicorn poodle which I liked even more!

The photopolymer plate of my unipoodle design with some paper samples

The workshop was run by Emily and Rob from their spacious West Perth studio and was a small group of six. We split into two groups, one setting up the presses while the other mixed the inks. We used one of two hand operated presses, called Little Leo and Lilian, to print our designs.

My poodlecorn on the inked up press, Lilian

Everything has to be just right to get a perfect print which includes adjusting the amount of ink, the height of the paper, the pressure and lots of other little things. But it turned out well in the end!

Poodlecorns on a selection of papers, including a handmade one by one of the other participants.

After a yummy lunch of pumpkin soup and turkish bread, we had time for a little experimenting with the old woodblock type which Emily was lucky enough to find on a trip to India.

I had a fun day and would love to do it again and make a friend for my magical poodlecorn!

Tickle the alpacas!

Tickle the Imagination magazine is a great publication that comes out of Western Australia and is devoted to creativity, in particular handmade, craft and design. The latest issue, number 20, had a feature on llamas and alpacas which included my alpaca necklaces! It also has lots of other interesting and creative things inside and I recommend checking it out!

Made on the Left winter market

For the past few months, I've been madly working away to help organise and prepare for the Made on the Left market, which was on Sunday. For the first time it was held at the Perth Concert Hall and it turned out to be a pretty good venue, with lots of natural light. It was filled with over 70 local designers, lots of customers and four local music acts. Unfortunately, I was running around doing organisational things so much that I didn't get to spend much time at my stall or to get any photos! Luckily, I had a very capable helper to serve my customers and Louise Simonette was there to take photos. Thanks guys!

Wall alpacas!

Here's one of my newer pieces – an alpaca wall plaque! For all the times you've wanted an alpaca on your wall but couldn't get it to stick. Luckily, this one comes with a hook on its back for easy attachment. Yay for alpacas!

A zombie has my keys!

Every so often I deviate from the cutesy and come up with something like this zombie. It's still kind of cute though! It's now available from my etsy shop. Beware! It likes brains...
